Mothers Who Care

OUR PRIMARY FOCUS AS A PRAYER MOVEMENT IN SCHOOLS

We are mandated to raise up moms to pray in the schools their children are at. We believe that it is God’s heart that we pray for every child in our nation and every school (staff, teachers, ground-staff/support staff and heads of school).

In between the weekly prayer that happens with our prayer teams nation-wide – there are several opportunities to be creative in sharing the love of Jesus in this space as Holy Spirit inspires. We desire to be salt and light in our community.

6th Annual National Week of Prayer

This year we hosted our 6th annual national week of prayer for schools. We are truly thrilled at the momentum The Lord has allowed us to gain with this step of faith, which we began in 2020. It had been a hugely challenging year with most schools not allowing the prayer moms at the school, like we usually did. We felt the prompting of the Lord to pray for the communities surrounding the school. To take our prayer focus towards families.

We took to the streets with the intention of praying broader than the schools we cover in prayer every week. We encouraged teams to prayer walk or prayer drive the area. Our primary focus was to worship Our Lord Jesus – and pray the Light of Christ over our community.

This year there has been much collaboration from prayer groups, the group leaders and the regional leaders.

Pretoria Team

We were given the opportunity to partner with YOUTH FEST in our city. It is always incredible when young people are given the freedom to worship Our Lord Jesus together. And for the gospel to be preached to the youth of our nation.

There are always opportunities at these events to minister to youth. Youth Leaders, church leaders and prayer moms working together is the fruit of this event.

We Give God the Glory – for this cross-denominational and cross cultural event.

Soshanguve primary school visit

The Lord directed our steps. We were so blessed by the open doors to this Christian principal’s office & school. At Soshanguve we had the opportunity to address all the parents at Sinqobile primary school. They have more than 2000 learners there.

I was welcomed with open arms and there is already Moms who want to start praying. Principal Moshidi will let me know as soon as they have themselves available for a first prayer meeting! Praise the Lord!

After sharing with her about Mothers Who Care, she immediately asked me to come back on the 19th of October to address the children’s parents at the parents meeting about praying at their school and inviting them to take hands in establishing their prayer group! Hallelujah, our God is faithful!!

BOTSHABELO

Recently Ike Mokopane from a CCCSA GCM had MC2 training in Botshabelo, Bloemfontein. He provided mw with a list of name of ladies in this community who were excited at hearing of Mothers Who Care and were keen to see prayer in their school communities.

I gathered all the names and created a WhatsApp group with their permission and have been meeting online [WhatsApp call] to pray on a Thursday evening for 30 minutes. We also conducted some training around how to start a group and how we work as a prayer movement in schools. There has been a bit of a language barrier and the ladies are keen to have a training manual in their language which is Sesotho. We are working on helping them gain the tools in their own language.

What was really an exciting exercise was finding out the names of the schools near their homes. We recorded 28 schools among the 18 ladies, in their community. There were a few dove-tails in the listing – which already helps to start a prayer group in those schools. Now it is just a matter of grouping and determining their times and availability.

The Moms are encouraged as Father is raising their expectation of what Father can do in their neighbourhood as we band together in prayer. It has been a real delight to meet online in this way.

Teachers' Day

This date in our calendar is always a beautiful opportunity to love on the staff at the schools we serve. Depending on the groups – Teachers’ Day can be celebrated with a Tea Treat or chocolate and perhaps a card. We let our prayer teams know in advance when it will be so that they can plan towards it, if their teams desire.

We always communicate that they need not do anything and that we never want to place any financial burden on the prayer moms – so it is always optional to give towards these events. The picture below is an example of a card sent out by the prayer moms at the beginning of 3rd term holidays as Teachers’ Day seems to fall on a school holiday break.

ACTS OF GENEROSITY

Many of our prayer groups embark on various Acts of Kindness as they are led of the Lord. Some have regular rhythms which they have made a part of their blessing the schools. This particular MWC prayer group puts together a hamper for the cleaning staff at their school and take time to present it to them and pray for them before the school year ends. It is such a wonderful example of Christ’s Love and generosity.

REGIONAL COORDINATORS MEETING IN CAPE TOWN

Every now and then I have an opportunity to meet the coordinators around the country. In May this year, was one of those amazing times to look into each other’s eyes and encourage one another.

We shared what Our Lord Jesus is doing in our hearts and in our school prayer groups. They are doing an incredible bob as volunteers in our movement of prayer.

An Amazing Moment Together & with Holy Spirit

A while back Heleen Kelber (Pretoria Coordinator) and Ellenor Lotter (Port Elizabeth Coordinator) and I, were in Cape Town attending a Prayer Retreat with women from Mitchell’s Plain. We had felt the Lord prompt us to go to Cape Point on a specific prayer assignment. It was a phenomenal time breaking bread together and ushering in The Presence of the Lord. God is truly amazing in allowing us to walk out this mission as I had been stewarding this notion for more than 3 years. They were a key part of it, as I really believe Father did not want me to do it on my own. God had given specific instruction which we were able to walk out together. Father is truly faithful in the things He calls us to.

PRAYER WEEK OPPORTUNITIES

One of the most incredible values that we have in our prayer movement is that each group would be Holy Spirit inspired and do as Father leads them. During our National Week of Prayer – the prayer moms invited the heads of school and staff to join them in Breaking Bread together – some students were a part of that time together. It was an incredibly special time praying together with a collective of praying parents, staff and children.

PRAYING COLLECTIVELY

The Prayer Moms in Pretoria gathered together to pray for all the schools in their region. Karen Meerholtz has been steering the Pretoria Team this year and has been doing a sterling job! We are grateful to Our Father for raising up women of valour and some men who also meet to pray at their children’s schools. Heleen Kelber has been steering the teams in Pretoria for many years and it is exciting to see the baton handed over to a new leaders which will allow Heleen to focus on new groups in the Gauteng region.

PRAYING Dads

We are unashamedly a ministry of prayer primarily focussed on raising up Moms to pray in the schools their children attend. In Pretoria, there have been a number of Dads who gather to pray for the schools as well. These Dads gathered to pray as a collective for their children’s schools. They are not perturbed by our name or the fact that we primarily gather ladies to pray They have felt convinced of their authority as Dads, to add their heartfelt intercession for this generation of young people. We Praise The Lord for this!

This is such a confirmation of Malachi 4:6

And He shall turn and reconcile the hearts of the (estranged) fathers to the (ungodly) children, and the hearts of the (rebellious) children to (the piety of) their father’s (a reconciliation produced by repentance of the ungodly)
