FamilyLife is a strategic initiative of Campus Crusade for Christ (now known as CRU in the USA). In 1951, Bill Bright received a unique impression from God to invest his life in helping reach the entire world, starting with college students. In the autumn of that year, he and his wife, Vonette, initiated Campus Crusade for Christ on the UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) campus. The ministry rapidly expanded with strategies reaching out to various spheres of humanity.
In 1976, a need for ministry among young couples on staff was identified. This led to the establishment of FamilyLife, which quickly evolved into a comprehensive ministry, focusing on reaching one family at a time. FamilyLife expanded to numerous countries worldwide.
In 1996, Quintus and Isolde Swanepoel founded FamilyLife in South Africa. Their testimony is presented in our story below. Additionally, there are two other stories that illustrate the privilege and impact of FamilyLife South Africa.
Before delving into the three articles, let’s address the question: What is FamilyLife in a nutshell? The mission of the ministry is: Building spiritual movements by aiding in the development of godly marriages and families in South Africa so that every family knows another family who truly follows Jesus Christ.
FamilyLife is dedicated to helping individuals understand and apply the biblical blueprints for maintaining a God-honouring marriage and raising children to become responsible adults. A godly home is constructed by understanding God’s blueprints for marriage and parenting and putting them into practice.
