Someone once said that the most valuable real estate in the world is the 3×2-inch screen of your cell phone.
This is exactly the mission field that Digital Strategies wants to reach—connecting with people through that small screen.
Digital Strategies officially launched in South Africa in 2012 as one of the ministries of Campus Crusade for Christ South Africa.
The early days were challenging. The digital world offers countless opportunities, and it wasn’t easy to decide which direction to take. Fortunately, Campus Crusade International already had several digital tools available. One of the most promising was The Mentor Centre, a ministry of Power to Change in Canada.
The Mentor Centre is an online platform that connects seekers with Christian mentors who can walk with them on their spiritual journey. In addition to the Mentor Centre, we explored various other tools and platforms. However, we soon realized that we couldn’t do everything and needed to focus our efforts.
Two tools that worked particularly well together were the Mentor Centre and Jesus.net. So, we launched a website on the Jesus.net platform called KnowingGod.co.za. This site provided people with resources to grow in their relationship with Jesus. From there, users could be connected to a mentor through the Mentor Centre to begin a personal discipleship journey.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, we were among the few ministries already equipped to reach and disciple people online. With this experience, we were able to help other ministries within Campus Crusade for Christ South Africa transition from face-to-face to online outreach and discipleship.
The third tool we used was Indigitous, a blend of the words indigenous and digital. Indigitous focuses on developing content and digital platforms that are culturally relevant to specific regions. It also creates a unique space for people with digital and tech skills—such as developers, creatives, and social media experts—who want to serve in ministry but often struggle to find their place. Indigitous gives them a way to use their talents and passions for God’s Kingdom.
If you have a passion for online ministry—whether it’s website development, app creation, or content production—we’d love to partner with you. We are looking to revive and strengthen KnowingGod.co.za, and we invite you to help us do that. If your heart beats for social media and digital platforms, there’s also a place for you in the Indigitous movement.
Let’s take hands and use the world’s most valuable real estate to reach hearts for Christ.
